The JSU Honor Band is an annual event open to outstanding band members.  Applications have already been submitted and the following students were accepted: Braden Sutton, Ashley Brunson, Hannah Smith, Zack Brunson, Jacob Parker, D.J. Brock, Eric Kirby, Jake Watters, Kacie Minter, Cornelius Hammond, Christa Beall, Cassarah Blackstock, Kayla Ayers, Haley Pendleton.

 

Cost

  • $125 fee due on acceptance in March
  • No cost for transportation to the event
  • Parents are to check students out of dorms at lunch on Saturday and stay through the concert

 

Transportation

  • Students will ride to JSU on a Floyd County school bus after school Thursday
  • Transportation while in Jacksonville will be provided
  • Parents need to meet their student at the end of Saturday’s rehearsal (12:00 for Middle School and 9th graders, TBA depending on clinician with the 10-12 HS groups)
  • Check out of dorm with parents Saturday afternoon
  • Transportation will not be provided home on Saturday

 

Meals

  • Students will need money for food on Thursday evening
  • Breakfast (light) will be provided Friday and Saturday
  • Lunch (full) will be provided Friday and Saturday
  • Dinner will be provided Friday
  • Snacks and drinks other than above are at student expense

 

Housing

  • Dorm rooms are included
  • There is no phone service in the dorm rooms
  • Students are to bring a sleeping bag or twin bed linens and a pillow
  • Two students will share a room, assignments are pre-arranged
  • Remember to bring personal items, toiletries and a towel

 

What to bring

  • Wire music stand
  • Well-prepared chromatic scale (slur up, tongue down), sight-reading chops
  • Casual clothes within school dress code will be worn for rehearsals
  • There is a social event Friday night, dress appropriately
  • Khaki shorts or pants and the Honor Band t-shirt will be worn for the concert

2:00-2:30pm      Registration and Check-in
2:30-8:00pm      Auditions (Dinner on your own)
9:00pm               JSU Concert at Leone Cole Auditorium

Friday, May 9th
7:00-8:00AM      Breakfast at the Cafeteria
9:00-Noon                   Rehearsal
10:00-Noon       Woodwind Clinic-Location TBA
Noon-1:30pm    Lunch at the Cafeteria
1:30-3:30           Woodwind Clinic-Location TBA
1:30-4:30pm      Rehearsal
4:30-6:30pm      Dinner at the Cafeteria
6:30-9:00pm      Rehearsal
9:00-11:30pm    Dance/Social

Saturday, May 10th
7:00-8:00AM      Breakfast at the Cafeteria
9:00-10:30AM    Rehearsal
10:30-12:30pm  Lunch at Cafeteria and Check-out of Dorms

12:30PM             Concerts begin at Coliseum


Concerts will be held in the Pete Matthews Coliseum, located on Hwy 204 west of Hwy 21

Driving directions:  From Rome, you have two options. 

  • First option, take 27S through Cedartown to US Hwy 78, and turn right
  • Drive to Piedmont, AL and turn right at the stop sign
  • Go past Hwy 9 and turn left onto Hwy 21S
  • Follow to JSU (10 miles), turn right onto campus across from library (tall building)
  • Mason Hall houses some of the rehearsals
  • Students will need to tell you what dorm they’re in once we check in

 

  • Second option, go to Cave Spring from Rome, turn right at the light
  • Turn left at the first large intersection in Alabama (no light) and follow through Spring Garden
  • Follow signs to Hwy 78, turn right on 78
  • Drive to Piedmont, AL and turn right at the stop sign
  • Go past Hwy 9 and turn left onto Hwy 21S
  • Follow to JSU (10 miles), turn right onto campus across from library (tall building)
  • Mason Hall houses some of the rehearsals
  • Students will need to tell you what dorm they’re in once we check in
